Way before Obama, lol.
During the evacuation Six Flags was free to anyone with a Louisiana ID. That was cool. Then I went to Houston like a year later to see friends and it was being dismantled.
Most of the rides including the Ultra Twister, Batman, XLR8, and the Texas Cyclone were bought and rebuilt at other parks.

My first ever "loop" roller coaster. Or maybe it was "Viper" but both bring back memories to me. Hell Excalibur was my first ever roller coaster. I was so scared to get on it the first time. I would still go to Astroworld once or twice a year. Houston is actually a very good city for weekend tourism. Nice museums and things to do, catch a baseball game etc.
I would like to be able to grab the kids and take them to a place like that for a day and stay a night or two than have to go to Disney.
San Antonio isn't too bad of a drive though, nor is Dallas.

We use to take the bus from Bellaire in Houston to the park in the 1970's without our parents knowing. That was the parks hey day with the Astrodome across the street.
The Texas Cyclone was the big deal back in the 1970's.
Still remember going to Astroworld and then seeing an Astro or Oilers game afterwords.
Still got baseball cards signed by the old Astro players Jose Cruiz, JR Reynolds, and Nolan Ryan.
Then got an Oilers shirt from back in the day signed by the Tyler Rose Earl Campbell.
That part of town is pretty rough unless you go up in the Medical Center.
