I would rather poor service, where I have to flag down the waiter or pay at the counter, than better service where I'm guilted into tipping just because.

I mean the tipping concept here is so bizarre. No one informs you of it- but you're a cheap a-hole if you don't tip. Can you imagine the confusion of a foreigner dining at a restaurant who doesn't know any better? It's really gotten out of control too. Everyone wants a god damn tip. And people like me don't want to look cheap so we tip well not to look cheap. It's really annoying.

How about the restaurants charge more for the food, the customer doesn't tip, and everyone is made happier by a simpler system.

It's not a shitty system. And the reality of the situation is that the restaurant experience would be worse.

If you're super concerned with waiters wages, you can argue that they should be paid minimum wage, but why ban tipping?

But that doesn't make any sense!

Blah, blah, blah

You have to pay them so the owner doesn't have to.

Don't support banning anything, but hate the current tipping culture.

No one should ever expect a tip. Ever.

I still happily tip, normally 25%. I just don't believe it's the most rational system.

So, you're insane.

So the problem isn't with the system, it's with your self esteem and ego?

Everyone isn't happier. The restaurant loses business because of increased prices, they either cut food quality, fore employees, or both, and the service declines, leading to an unhappy customer.

I can't believe more people aren't pissed at the people who don't tip and therefore get their food for less. That alone is reason enough to get rid of tipping.

Tipping should never be banned, it allows people who tip well to get better and faster service. Plus, if you end up being drunk and stupid it buys forgiveness and I sometimes issues with that.

Our culture not only expects a tip, they essentially demand one. Why is that?

People are publicly shamed for not tipping.

I have. Have you? Or are you one of those people who wants to change the livelihood of an entire profession without any idea what you're talking about or any experience in that profession?

In my state, servers make at least minimum wage ($9.47) and you're still expected to tip in full. That one bugs me a little.

Nope. Scruffy's interactions are as the costumer and he hates the system.

I have never in my entire life seen anyone publicly shamed for not tipping excluding millionaires on Twitter.

Then cook your own food and leave the service industry alone

This is all horseshite. The only people that lose in this situation are the POS people that didn't tip before and now those peoples' tip is included in the meal. Good screw those a-hole nontippers.

I've worked in the service industry, both dealing with food and selling t-shirts.

I didn't deal with your food any faster/nicer because I was hoping for a tip, I did it because it was my job.

When I was selling t-shirts, was I supposed to not help the customer as well if I thought he was going to give me a shitty tip?
