Society has gotten more and more casual each year. Funerals and weddings used to be a suit/tie but now half the men don't even wear a jacket. Graduations and things like that were dress-up time but not anymore.

Why do you think this trend is occurring?

graduation, no ... too many disenfranchised folks who act like idiots cause their children got essentially an attendance certificate ...

funerals and weddings, yes ... though most of the folks under-dressed at my weddings and funerals are good ole boys making american great who can't be bothered to put on something special for someone's wedding or funeral ...

cluster frick all the way around from everybody ...

I've been to a lot of afternoon weddings lately. Varies by age, just like church nowadays.

All of the kids just out of college were wearing slacks and dress shirts.

The late twenties to forty likely had a jacket, but a large number had no tie.

And of course a majority of the old guys went full jacket and tie.

Hell, thirty years ago my grandpa died in his chair wearing a suit after getting back from a haircut and a milkshake from McDonalds on a Saturday morning. He had worn a suit to hang out at the barbershop and go to McDonalds. And that was in BFE Arkansas.

People are just getting progressively more lazy.

And if you are going to dress, dress properly.

1. Dress shirts do not have short sleeves regardless if they sell them that way.

2. Never, ever, wear a shirt and tie with no jacket, ever!

3. Learn to tie a full Windsor knot.

It’s having respect for the institution and occasion to dress in a respectful manner.
Like I said, God doesn't care what you wear. Other church goers do.

Think about the absurdity of that coming from someone at the church.

I have to wear a suit and tie every day at work. I have zero desire to do so on my time off.
