I have a good feeling she has tried more than just twice
I can agree with that. She just tried to drive off at the gas pump about 3 weeks ago without paying. They caught her...shocker! She's in jail now. Had warrants and shite out. She's the black sheep of the family. Judge said he's gonna give her 6 years if he sees her again...well, he's about to see her again.

I thought there was a confrontation a couple of years ago where the thief ended up dead and that looked bad for the company. So, they decided just let people take the stuff and figure it out with the insurance company later.
Most companies have a hands off policy but do have you call cops after people leave. You can literally walk in any store and walk out with what you want, and your chances of getting caught are very slim. I know some local companies will not even allow employees to follow suspects into the parking lot.

What's funny is that people are walking out with 800 dollar TVs everyday no problem but I get shook down by an 80 year old lady when I go thru self checkout with a few rolls of TP

It's so easy to steal from Walmart. I once saw a black guy walk in with a backpack, load it up with liquor and walk out with no problem

Wal-Mart policy is for the worker to contact management, management contact loss prevention, loss prevention contact the police.

I have a buddy that works loss prevention at a Wal-Mart in BR and he told me they lose over 1 million dollars a year to theft. Plus, he says employees steal TVs all the time when they come in the truck.

How'd they catch her?

Because theyd rather lose the inventory than the cops wrestle with some dude in front of all their customers. Potentially even injuring them. Its really that simple.
Or employees getting hurt trying to stop someone... itd cost them more than that microwave...

They have facial recognition. They will be knocking on your door. Wake up

I didn't see it mentioned, but the Walmart on Burbank think they Costco now. At least in the evening, they have security guys who check receipts as you leave. The trigger seems to be having unbagged items in your cart.

My high school girlfriend worked at Abercrombie and she told me all the time about people who would grab stuff and speed walk out of the store. They never called the police.
The only time they would check people for theft was customers didn't have a matching ID for a credit card.
They already factor loss due to theft into the price of the clothing. There are potential legal issues by pursuing someone who stole something and it's not worth the cost.
