Why does every generation predict the end of civilization as we know it?

This is well on its way to becoming America's new favorite pastime – people on the internet pining for the old days and predicting the fall of civilization. It's always been human nature for many people to think that their time on earth will be an especially important period in the history of the world, because so many people are self-centered and melodramatic.

If message boards and Facebook were around during the Cold War in the 1960s, when kids were having nuclear fallout drills in school, people really really would've flipped their shite.

Personally, I choose to count my blessings. I have central heat and air running up my leg to my nuts. It could rain for 8 straight days and my roof still wouldn't leak. I had cheesesteak egg rolls delivered to my front door the other day.

There has actually never been a better time to be alive.

People have an instinctive need to control outcomes. Part of our survival wiring…. But when we recognize things bigger than our control we must align it with Doomsday lest our belief we control other aspects of life will also fail

Sooner or later one will be right.

I have been alive in 7 different decades and frankly wouldn't go back in time to live in any of them.

I have no time for wistful romanticism of the past.

In the modern sense this way of thinking only began in the West w/the catastrophe of WWI (Spengler, etc), while tUS had to wait until its own calamity in Vietnam

From a technological standpoint?

Was Western Man not happier & more satisfied living 200 years ago with his unshakable faith in God?

Western man was satisfied and chilling until his wife and children died from teberculosis. Then the dysentery kicks in Western Man shite himself to death. Western Man dealt with a lot of death and heart ache before finally shitting himself to death.

Comrade, is it better to live 70 years confused & discontented about your life, or 60 years happy & content with your place in the world, & with God?
