Right, it alters your reality. Without it you can't feel good (altered reality). Without it, the reality is that chicks can't dig you (whatever that means) unless you're someone different, in a different reality, than when you're sober.
This is ridiculous. Plenty of people drink for the same reasons people play video games, watch sports and movies, etc.
Drinking is fun, good alcohol tastes fantastic and often it occurs in the presence of good company. It doesnt gave to be about "escaping reality" because you "cant deal with it". Many people drink purely for personal and social enjoyment.
To use a reference you might understand, Jesus' first supposed miracle was turning water into wine to keep a party going. Alcohol is referred to as a gift from God in the bible. Everything in moderation, and yes alcohol can be a vice for people. That isnt the case for everyone, and those of us who purely enjoy it without negative effects on our lives dont need your ridiculous self righteousness.

None of the alcoholics in my family ever thought their drinking had a negative effect on our lives.

At the level of an alcoholic, even if you are perfectly functional you are doing serious damage to your heart and liver. That isnt the kind of drinking Im talking about. If you are downing a 12 pack every night or a bottle of liquor, you probably need to take a hard look at your habits. Going out with friends on the weekends and drinking at tailgates is not a problem for most people.

it just happens to most of us.(drunk) people use drugs for exactly what they do to them

I heard this at an Al-Anon meeting one time.
I get what they were trying to say... now.
funny how that works out.

Nobody is claiming alcohol isnt a big problem for some people. To assume that everyone who drinks has an underlying issue is absurd.

I like it. And I like doing things I like, so it just makes sense. Why do you care?

did
not
say
that.
drinking is fun.
especially during Mardi Gras.
but I'm sympathetic to those who attend Al-Anon regularly or at all.
it's apart of my past.

I drink for numerous reasons. Celebration, wine pairing, to elevate the social environment, but mostly because I'm sad and I don't think there can be anything better to do.
