Why do some alcohol websites have that pointless age verification?

It's on the internet so it has to be true.

And I'm gonna add things like Six Sigma and other "process improvement" and efficiency programs, that have really cool names and acronyms, and that's about it. I'd guess liability.

Seems like a small measure, but there's very little upfront cost and it's a nice bullet point in terms of showing underage drinking prevention efforts.
