re: Why do fit people not wear Fitbits?

In no way was I hating on fat people who are trying. I'm hating on the people who won't put in the effort to educate themselves on the correct methods to reach their goals, huge difference.
When I have people pull me to the side and ask for advice, I take the time to explain things to them in a manner that they will understand. What frustrates me is when these people waste my time and don't even try the suggestions I've made to them.
Do I expect someone who doesn't live an active lifestyle to suddenly do what I'm doing? Hell no. It took me years to get where I'm at. On top of that, I've played sports my entire life. I only took a break after some serious injuries, which covered the span of about 5 years of minimal activity. I gained some weight in that time.
I don't care what people do or don't do in the gym. In all honesty, the more people use elliptical's, the less crowded it is for me. Keep following the diet of the month club, wear your fitbits to count steps, buy your pyramid scheme overpriced protein packs and vitamins, and never lose any weight. I see this on a daily basis.

the myth that treadmill running requires less effort than over-ground running
I hate to break it to you, but that's not entirely a myth.
For comparison sake, lets assume both planes re perfectly level.
If you are running on flat ground, each step you take requires you to propel your entire body weight forward.
Running the same speed and also on a flat surface of a treadmill, you aren't propelling your body weight, you're keeping your center of mass stationary as the surface below you moves. You do this by matching offsetting the momentum of the belt.
Not saying a treadmill isn't effective, but it doesn't stress your body in the exact same manner.
However, the difference between the 2 is fairly minimal based on my understanding. They are close enough to allow a treadmill to be used for medical purposes like stress testing your heart.
I'm not a runner, but I do know I can run further on a treadmill than I can on the ground.

Here's a question for you:
Will an airplane take off if it's on a treadmill?

Running on a treadmill you don't deal with surface structure, climate, etc. Not to mention you are pushing off on body weight vs a belt going for you. There is a huge difference myself and many others can tell you

So Austin are you saying you can not get a decent workout on an elliptical? I used to do 20 minute interval sessions on an elliptical that would have me ready to pass out and I am in pretty decent shape.

Me too. I used to bust my arse on an elliptical.

I am currently in physical therapy at BR Orthopedic clinic and my therapist has me on the elliptical every single session.

All that sweat that drips from my pores must be mental. And I'm guessing the heart monitor on the machine is lying to me too.

Fat-shaming Austin Cajun cleans the floors in a hospital and has talked to a doctor. Ellipticals are useless. None of the workouts you remember on an elliptical were real. Figments of the imagination.

You can get your heart rate up on them if that's your goal. Of all the equipment in the typical gym, it's the least effective.
The best example I can give is that a girl on my softball team likes to use the elliptical a lot, we go to the same gym so I see her 2 or 3 times a week.
She will brag about how she did an hour on the elliptical. However, when I put her in the outfield, just jogging back to the dugout has her winded.
Now if she's spending 3 to 4 hours a week putting in a solid cardio workout, wouldn't you expect her to be able to jog 75 yards to the dugout and not sound like she's going to hyperventilate?
If you want to get more results from the time you put in, stay off the treadmills and elliptical machines. Of course this is dependent on what results you're trying to achieve.
Want to run a marathon, fine don't touch weights. Spend all of your time on the treadmill and stair climber.
If you want to burn fat and truly get "toned". You only need to spend 15 to 20% of your time doing cardio, and do it at the end of your workout.
Like I stated, I dropped 35lbs in 5 months doing nothing but free weights. I went from 230 down to 195. I'm now bulked up to 212 with 15% bf. I'm about to start cutting again to get down to around 200lbs which will put me at about 10% bf. That's tough to achieve though, I've never been that lean and I enjoy my beer by the pool during the summer.

obviously they are not useless as you can get your heart rate up pretty high with the resistance settings
but y'all know what type of person AC was talking about
I personally find ellipticals, treadmills, etc soul crushing

I suppose that's up to the Dr. then. I'm in biomedical, so I see every piece of equipment that comes through this hospital. The Dr. that's in charge of PT here completely agrees with my stance on the elliptical machine and. We just had the discussion a couple of weeks ago, he stated he has absolutely no need for one in his office as it just takes up space.
That doesn't imply every Dr. is going to agree with him. Maybe they treat different injuries where you're at and it's beneficial there.
You guys can keep trying all you want. What's funny is that none of you actually offer any info stating how an elliptical is any good or better than any other method. You're simply trolling.

My dad and his wife are annoyingly fit vegan twigs that love their fit bit. They wont let themselves go to sleep until they get their 10,000 steps in every day. They seem miserable, I guess tofu ice cream will do that to people.
I run/workout so I can eat what I want .... But whatever
