Why did 2M2B never take off as a viable alternative to drinking ethanol?

Forgot about this, but 15 years ago in college, I would've sworn 2-methyl-2-butanol would have become a more popular tertiary alcohol alternative to drinking traditional ethanol alcoholic drinks by now. If not only because of the listed benefits of 0 calories and no hangover.
Was it the awful camphor oil taste, dangerous/tricky dosing, or longer duration that led to its demise? Or did Big Alcohol kill it before it ever gained momentum?

Because it just doesn't sound right in a country song.
Methyl Butanol River will never be a hit song.

It is significantly more potent than ethanol by weight.
Sounds like a fun time

Did Everclear, Thunderbird or Natty light ever release a version?
If not I didn't drink it in college.
