They are actually considering building a medical school in Lafayette that trains GPs.

they built the med school in Shreveport for this very reason.

I thought the laffy plan was dead and they were trying to spin off a 3rd LSU medical school in BR?

I think this is in the works. We have the option to apply to do all 3rd and 4th year rotations in BR, I think eventually they're gonna have it where all 4 years can be done there. The budget problems may delay that process.

Rural scholar tract people do 3rd and 4th year all in laffy, though.

From what I hear, there's also a shortage of GPs in Louisiana. They are actually considering building a medical school in Lafayette that trains GPs.

Being scrutinous and probably missing your point, but it won't train GPs, nor is really any state "missing" GPs. A GP is a doctor who has completed medical school and one year of training, usually with a "mixed bag" approach where they see a little of everything, and then practices with an unrestricted license. They're not eligible to sit for any boards, they're not really "in style" at all any more. The new school, if it ever happens- and at a "Town Hall Meeting" the school had back in Dec it was mentioned as being in the works- it will focus on providing Primary Care Physicians, otherwise known as Internal Medicine (3 years), Pediatrics (3), Family Medicine (3), Medicine-Pediatrics (4). I do not know whether they consider the field of OB/GYN (4) to be primary care or not when it comes to this school. In any matter, physicians who complete programs in these fields are eligible for board certification through their respective governing bodies (including both ABIM and AAP for the Med-Peds folks). It's a subtle difference, and I may have missed the spirit of your post, but it's a fairly important distinction for anyone who would be deciding to go into that program.

Didn't get accepted? Condolences but there are other jobs out in the world for your kind that require less intelligence.

tried making a dermatologist appointment in lafayette once and had To wait over a month

Lafayette has a shortage of dermatologists

as for the boards, and idk, but I thought that if you graduate med school then you are a Doctor. You go on to residency, and can practice medicine- not specialize. You can definitely go overseas to practice in some countries. You're not board certified, but you can do general stuff like open a weight loss clinic or stuff like that and claim it's run by a physician.

Internal medicine, like Family practice and pediatrics, is just a three-year residency.
