Why are there no AWS servers in Russia or most of Africa?

Only one AWS Availabilty Zone in Africa (Johannesburg) and none in Russia. The rest of the world including the Middle East have a few regions/availability zones.

The one in South Africa is only due because that is actually where AWS genesis was. Guy from Amazon wanted to leave the company to go back to South Africa but Bezos wanted him to work remotely. The team was so far away from Bezos/headquarters that they were actually able to get work done without being berated/micromanaged by Bezos.

Probably because of their Internet Censorship and laws pertaining to keeping server logs. Are there any AWS instances in China? Internet censorship in Russia

As for the rest of Africa, I'd imagine because of China cutting infrastructure deals with all of the major nations apart from South Africa.

I'm guessing you have no clue about what AWS is.

Internet infrastructure in Africa is notoriously bad. Many places have Internet speeds like we had in 1999.

I have no idea about Russia. Probably security reasons.

Russian laws are different as far as network infrastructure and computer hardware. There is also the chance that the state could seize the assets in the data center.

I’m sure that Ali Baba would be the cloud platform choice in mother Russia but what do I know?
