I had to do community service in high school for a speeding ticket and I worked some hours at GoodWill (frigging horrible), but I had no idea the buttons were on different sides for men/women until one of the ladies there bitched at me for putting a man's shirt in the women's department and explained to me how to tell.

Ouachita.

The smell of going through people's donated clothes, bedding, etc. will forever be engrained in my nostrils.

It definitely taught me to put a little effort into picking out what I want to donate and giving it to them in a decent manner.

Some people.

I've dropped off old dirty laundry at goodwill because I didn't feel like washing it.

They're some picky frickers. I wanted to donate a dining room table a year ago, and they wanted to know how many chairs came with it.

If you're getting it for free, you can't be picky goodwill.

Yeah, well, 'dirty clothes' is one thing. I had to go through the bags with that community service and I remember someone donated some baby bedding with baby poop ALL over it. I about had a panic attack. I really wish they would have set me up at Kiroli Park, I'm pretty sure I cried over it.

Growing up, I always heard it was because the men would wear swords on their left side so they unsheathed them with their right hand. To keep from getting their swords hung up in their shirt or jacket, buttons were on the right. This could be total bullshite but it's what I heard growing up.
