Idk how, but Apple figured out a way to fill up the storage of seemingly empty phones, which renders them useless. Then, people think the phones are old and broken, so they go out and buy new ones

My wife had this too, it's some bug

Eventually I think we did a hard reset and got it to update (it wouldn't before because it didn't think there was room) and magically 10 free gbs appeared.

That was on a 7, since we've gone to 8s and Xs it hasn't come back
