Yep not like the old days with no components to assemble. Parts are manufactured as complete plug-in or bolt-in modules either here or overseas (China) to expedite assembly. The problems are difficult to access parts, nothing can be replaced internally and crappy design, cheap highly degradable plastics result in leaks, cracks and component failure.
Assembly time has to be cut when the UAW gets contractual raises every year, and then a big one with every new contract negotiation.

They didnt have to make it that way. I could have been designed to have the bulb replaced.
But that woulnt make the stealership a wheelbarrow full of money.
Well, yeah, you do have to make it that way. If you want to be competitive in the marketplace with all the other OEMs who are turning headlights and taillights into styling statements, while at the same time integrating all kinds of safety features, from BLIS to distance keeping cruise control to ambient light sensors.
Dealer makes around 25-50% depending on part, which for them is great, but that is GROSS margin, that doesn't count their operating costs. Net margin that they actually bank is a good bit lower, but still more than what they make on new car sales.

Yeah that happened to me recently and Toyota told me the same thing.
Instead, I got on YouTube, found a video on how to replace it myself, then found the parts on eBay for $60. Replaced it all in 20 minutes.

My dad wanted to GIVE me his BMW years ago. Free! I didn’t take it. When he asked me why I told him if one thing goes wrong, no matter how small, it will be at least $500 to fix. frick that.
