Joel self-exiled for most of the 70s waiting for his contract with his sleazeball agent (who screwed him out of royalties for Piano Man,) to expire, he bursted out of this with The Stranger and 42nd Street, which segued into the 80s, it was easy for him to stand out in his genre due an overall pretty weak music scene, imo, his 80s body of work was very commercial and assembly line compared to the aforementioned albums
