The only smell I can recall from India is curry. I haven't had Indian food since I got back

I pretty much shite myself in a palace there.

Not my photo, but said palace:

Ya I ate some good stuff there. Louisiana spice has nothing on India spice. Not even the same universe.

Agra and Goa are pretty far apart, where are you flying into, Delhi or Mumbai? What's the occasion?

Do you remember the way it smelled as you got off the plane?

Honestly, this infamous smell of India didn't really strike me at all, but maybe it was the time of year I went.

A few years ago I was in singapore...which is clean, perfect, and in all ways not india. Then the wife got the idea we shoukd catch a cab to little India.

Let me tell you...instant change. Cleanest city in the world became over crowded, pigeons everywhere, smelled like the stockyard but there were no animals. Women with manly faces. Too many people. This was India.

That said, I know some Indian expats who are absolutely delightful people...and the women are none to shabby either.

a crow eating from its skull as people bathe in the background.

Same place. The names have been changed to the Indian names.

So you're just going for fun? I'd say, read the website indiamike.com. Its a pretty amazing India forum that tries to simplify the chaos of all kinds of things, what to do, etc. Very helpful posters on there. You have to prepare your mind for that much humanity, its crazy.

I've been to Bombay and Madras. I didn't care for India. Nothing could prepare for me for the level of poverty there and the fact that they purposefully maim children to turn them into beggars.

I was really hoping you were not going to say that.

How the frick do they stand it? That smell.... it's... once you've been exposed to it, I mean a lot of it , like you cannot get away from it, it stays with you and you just want to get way from it and never smell it again.

frick that.

You won't see something like that unless you look for it.

You're best bet would be Varanasi (Benares), which, I wish I was able to see. That is one of the most ancient cities in human civilization, the most holy city of Hinduism, and home to famous Burning Ghats (cremation area).

Evening aarti ceremony on the River Ganges:

Hindus put the dead in the river. It's their form of a funeral.
