Hopefully not Savannah
While geography may keep it somewhat limited, the port down there is primed to boom in the next couple decades.
Dredging the river for bigger ships already -- plus the Panama Canal adding deeper locks means more ships at east coast ports so Savannah should reap some huge benefits there

Hopedale as soon as they put in another back down launch and extend fiber optic cable.

Charleston....but if all he libs from Ohio would go back it would be fine. They love to tell you how great it was there.....really? Go back.
However, Boeing and now Volvo are really expanding the area.

Chicago and Fayetteville are in the same general area.
Are you suggesting they aren't?

I think Atl, Bham, and Greenville will eventually be one large metro.

Northwest Arkansas, Huntsville Alabama, and Oklahoma City come to mind. All that economic growth up in northern Alabama is no joke. Only a few hours from Nashville and a few from Atlanta is a plus.

I'm sure no one will agree but, Birmingham.

The south is booming, specifically parts of Alabama. Obviously Huntsville, but Baldwin County (Orange Beach, Fairhpe, etc.) is the fastest growing. The Mobile MSA is finally taking off. Amazing what can happen with decent leadership.

Within 4 years Huntsville is projected to become the largest metro area in the state of Alabama and is one of the fastest growing in the US.
Huntsville also came in at number 7 on US News best places to live list for 2018. Where I own my other home, Colorado Springs, CO, came in at number 2.

I’d like to agree but Birmingham needs a large industry to invest in the city. It’s on a really good track revitalizing the downtown area but there hasn’t been a true economic boom in job growth. Part of the issue is that politicians - both urban and suburban - don’t like the
This. We are getting restaurants/bars, but not any real jobs.

And Austin still does not have a single professional team.
UT is the professional team.
But seriously, it’s not a “pro sports” (trashy) type of town.
At any rate, San Antonio, which is the bigger MSA and only has basketball, would get pro football and baseball before Austin. In reality, Jerry would block any NFL expansion in Texas because the Cowboys get better ratings as a share of the market in San Antonio than in Dallas. And the population is already split between Rangers and Astros. Lots of Astros diehards in San Antonio, even when they were bad. Texas is an already saturated pro market with at least one powerful owner who would block expansion.

Detroit
Became what it was due the the confluence of raw material and manufactured industrial goods shipping at that point on the Great Lakes chain. Now that the United States isn’t the heavy industrial supplier of the world anymore, Detroit’s location is nothing but a negative. It probably won’t stay AS terrible, but it’s never really coming “back” (it was the 4th largest city at one time - the Houston of its era).

I’m not sure Huntsville will ever be on the Austin and Nashville level though. Might be a great city with an economic boom, but Austin and Nashville are seeing cultural explosions as well. They’re two of the premiere places to move to and visit. Huntsville has the space and rocket center and...?
