Sounds like a guy that got a chick pregnant back in the day when your only option was to get married. He stuck it out and life led him to a second kid and he remained on board to raise them through their formative years. When it was done he split to live the rest of his life as he wanted. He probably could have left on better terms, but at the end of the day I think he sounds like a guy that isn't especially good or bad...just did the best he could and appears to be enjoying the rest.

I think the story is embellished but not total BS...it's not fantastic enough.

They probably fought like hell during those 20 yrs.
You can bet he had a lot more than 800 stashed back.
I applaud him for sticking it out for that long.

Actually makes a lot of sense. Wanting to have kids and not liking your spouse are not mutually exclusive. If you're already married and have one kid it's logical to use the same partner for the second kid.

Didn't tell his wife anything. What a coward.

Not if your goal is to "leave when the kids finish school."

Another kid delays that by a few years, yet another delays freedom further.

At least how I see it.

So the wife keeps his money AND gets to swim in the BBC? I bet she got over him pretty soon.

Charlotte is loaded with beautiful streets and upper end communities. I'd love to know what this guy considers the "finest street in Charlotte"
He said he was making over $100K in the 1960s. That was very good money in the region at the time--if you believe him.
