And explain your answer.

I know a lot of very smart people that has no common sense which in my book make them some of the dumbest people on earth.

If I only could have a shite ton of one, but none of the other, I'd choose intelligence.
I just think it could help me out more in life. Take me down more roads. Common sense helps people not look foolish at times, but is it a necessity? You wanna be successful, you better be intelligent in most cases.
Plus, "common" being a part of common sense is a good reason to pick intelligence.

I love when jealous people use this old chestnut.

Depends but I'll take intelligence over common sense any day in the grand scheme of things.
Common sense doesn't make someone a doctor or have the ability to get a specialized degree

It does keep them from being killed in moronic ways.

I doubt many doctors walk out in front of buses or get their hands stuck in disposals. Common sense is great, but give me intelligence. Like please, someone give me some intelligence

This whole thing is arbitrary to me. The vast majority of smart people are well off in both regards. Common sense and intelligence aren't really completely distinguishable to me.

A better question would be ability or ambition and drive?
That's actually debatable.
The common sense versus intelligence is just how dumb asses make themselves feel better when a nuclear physicist doesn't know how to check his tire pressure.

I don't know too many intelligent people that have died in moronic ways.
Most intelligent people have common sense. I think it naturally comes with having a brain. At least more so than some random person with common sense and having very little intelligence.
I think a better comparison is street smarts vs intelligence.

This is a really good one, and tough too. I'm actually going in circles just trying to think of my answer.

But what street?
I'm pretty smart on Shakedown Street.
But I'm not so good on MLK Boulevard.

My for instance from last week...
Heading towards the CBD with my niece two weeks ago and we were on the streetcar. A Tulane girl (assume intelligent) was running towards us. It isn't unusual, they usually get on the other tracks and pass. However, there was another car coming. Common sense would dictate pulling up for a second and letting the cars pass, instead she tries to run on the green space between flowing traffic and the streetcar.

I was just thinking about this, but came to the conclusion that it's about the same thing as the common sense question.

Ambition and drive. I have tons of ability, just really low in the fricks given department.

Ambition and drive imo.
Ability is good for things like sports where a physical trait you were gifted with can take over.
In the classroom, its all about ambition and drive for the most part. The material is right there in front of you. It takes the person's want to go with it and succeed

Yeah, you right. Gotta assume you can have one but not the other. And if no fricks are ever given, well, who knows what miserable circumstance one might find themselves in. Jail seems like a popular destination for the "no fricks" club.

Intelligence. 'Common sense' is an expression that average people use to feel better about themselves.

"Intelligent" people like to pretend they are above knowing menial tasks when actually they are condescending and remarkably average.
