Which course would you recommend? The Old White Course at the Greenbrier, or the Cascades Course at the Homestead? I only have time to play one, and they are equal distance from my location. Ancillary benefits are not important. I am solely interested in the golf courses.

Not much response on the ot so thought I would try it here.

Can't go wrong with the Old White but I've never played the other course you listed.

You can't go wrong wth either one. Old White is an enjoyable old school course that has a lot of nostalgic feel. Cascades has some quirks, but some of the views and holes are spectacular. The beginning of the back 9 has some really great holes.

Personally, if it was strictly for one round of golf, I would probably go back to Cascades over Old White.

ETA - Next time I'm up there I plan to play the Highland Course at Primland and see how it compares.

If it makes any difference, they would cost the same (if that makes any difference given the old white is normally twice as pricey).

Is it just the scenery that is so much better at the Cascades? Is the old white course just a typical course in great condition after the first tee shot?

The Old White Course is where a current PGA tour event is held now, isn't it? I played this course many years ago. Greenbrier had 3 courses then. Not sure if they still do. They all were equally nice. The setting for the courses is in the Valley with little to no elevation changes.
I'll say this, you can not go wrong with the Greenbrier courses. I have not been to the Homestead.

Like East Coast Band said, Old White is in a valley. It's in terrific shape and just feels like an old style course. It's a really enjoyable, fun track.

Cascades literally weaves through the mountains, so you have lots of elevation changes and great views. It was in really good shape when I played it. I don't play courses like this very often, so that may be why I prefer it. It leads to some creative shot making and angles of attack, which makes it really fun to me.

Awesome. I don't play courses like that much either. That's why I was asking. It sounds like the Cascades course might be the course that is a little more memorable.

I would play the Cascades course just for something different. All the good courses around here are old white courses. You either play those or run down munies. Something else would be refreshing.
