For 500 to 700 where would you look?

Buy a spacious new house in Katy for $300k, put the savings in retirement and use the good public schools.

Yes, neither are Southside, Bellaire, or Bunker Hill...but for the sake of the argument we can pretend they are.

$300K will get him a nice house in the suburbs. He doesn't even have kids to fill it yet.

Functional, yes. But nice?

I don't think you could make Katy any less colorful if you tried

If you are going that far out look in Cinco Ranch in Katy, best schools around and some great houses in your price range. I am waiting 6 months to buy another house. I have been watching and houses are sitting on the market and not selling right now, and people are just starting to drop the prices a little. In 6 months the comps for areas should be lower, especially in the range you are looking at. I'm looking in the same price range, and I am expecting at least an 8-10% price drop over the next 6 months.

Yes because cinco is for poor people

It's a bunch of joneses who live out in the sticks and probably make a shite commute every day because they can't afford to live in Houston

Do you work in Houston?

Why would you spend an extra two hours of your day in traffic that you could be with your family?

Because you can live in cinco for cheap

Yes all those houses are nice. Yes Katy is a bland suburb. That's the point of a suburb. Affordable, spacious, good schools, low crime. The commute is not good but that's the trade off. There's always a trade off.

Besides, I don't get the uppity attitude here. most of you frickers either live in shitty Baton Rouge which blows if you're not an LSU student, or crime and pothole infested Nola where even the nice houses are near ghetto, or some podunk shite town in between. Don't act like you're too high brow for a Houston suburb.

It's not "cheap" but it's affordable for a family, has great public schools and no crime. The houses are new, landscaping is prevalent, and the only drawback is the commute. Certainly no poor people around, which is great. I like not having my car broken into. But no one moves to Katy to keep up with the Joneses. Those are the people who live nearer to Houston and pay private schools.
