I grew up with Hulk, remember the 1st two Wrestlemania’s well, the Saturday morning cartoons, and all of it.
However, I was a freshman at LSU in ‘96 and had completely stopped paying attention to wrestling. I only vaguely remember hearing about the heel turn but got caught up recently with the Vince McMahon doc.

100% agree…. WM 3 changed everything. 93,000 people showed up in the Silverdome to watch fake wrestling. Hogan and Andre was the main event and the passing of the torch was magical. But there was even more. The Savage vs. Steamboat match is still considered one of the all time greatest matches in history.

Calm down.
Flair is the greatest heel in wrestling history. Stone Cold and the Rock are the greatest faces.

I had forgotten that Dream was on the broadcast crew that night.
RIP.

quote:Hogan didn't want to do it and they were waiting for him to decide if he was going to or not. Sting was going to be the third man if he didn't agree to turn heel, hence why it was Savage taking the leg drop with Sting outside the ring.
I think I heard a podcast one time that said they didn’t tell the announcers who the third man was either so their play by play reaction would be even more authentic.

Sting joining the NWO would have been weird

I listened to Eric Bischoff's '83 Weeks' podcast and he was telling the story about how he himself wanted to see first-hand the crowd reaction to Hogan turning heel, so he disguised himself and sat up in the stands at Bash at the Beach with the fans in one of the last few rows

I grew up in SC and me and my buddies were die-hard Jim Crockett/WCW guys. At that time of the Outsiders invasion it really did feel like the big company from NYC was coming down south to ruin the company we'd loved. We were always Horsemen guys who thought Hogan was too gimmicky but man did he draw some heat. He immediately turned every heel on the WCW roster to a face.

That's awesome.

Seemed like everyone in high school had an nwo t shirt. Never seen anything like that phenomenon.
