You missed my point. I meant working 50 hour work week vs working a 40 hr work week is nothing to bitch, moan, and complain about.
ah, gotcha, yeah it ain't bad. I work 9/80s when i'm not on o/t so it doesn't really make my days feel that much longer.

Well, it is if your family life is planned around a 40 hour week. If daycare is involved, you may end up with less money working 50 instead of 40. Not to mention, the opportunity cost of 10 extra hours per week with family may be too high for some.
I hope you baws bragging about working 80 hours a week are young and single. If you have a family, learn to live within your means and make time for your family.
To the OP, I have a few questions: When you hired these people, was there a clear understanding between the two of you regarding overtime? When overtime is necessary, is it something you manage and plan ahead, or do you spring it on the employees last minute?

Is it just that they have a bad attitude about it, or is it that some of them pull no shows and refuse to work OT? Because those two scenarios are completely different.
I bitch about having to work OT too - until I get my check. Which, by the way, brings up another question. Are these employees being paid salary or hourly? Because that makes a world of difference in the discussion, too.

I have a few guys that bitch and moan when they have to work overtime. Maybe 10 hours tops per week
Then I have about 10+ applications sent in from employees from our competitors sending in applications because they are not getting at least 30 hours/ week where they are currently working and they want to work for us
Business people.. what would you do in my case?
I bitch I only get straight time OT. I work 50 hours every week and I don't mind in the least. 5/10s
ETA: I am on salary so the 10 extra hours at straight time is just extra money. I generally put it in my brokerage account.

With all this information like skill level required, quality of the employees currently hired, etc I can give a good opinion. I always think bringing in competitor labor is smart to learn new techniques and gain insight into how they do business. But if it is a fast food joint then that obviously chances my answer to if it is a group of nuclear physicist.

I have a family of 4 and I work OT on occasion. And I'm very involved in all the activities of my family. You just need to sack the frick up and be a man and a father. Your sole responsibility is to provide for your family and raise your children. Somewhere along the way, I think a lot of guys missed the memo on this. Especially the further away from the older generations you get. Some of you are under the impression that you should get all this extra free time and work banker's hours, yet get all the rewards of those who put a little extra effort in their job. It is entirely possible to put those extra hours in your job, and be present in all family activities as well.
I'm not a "baw bragging about working an 80 hr work week". Give me a fricking break. Quit being a pussy and be more willing to put more than 40 hours a week for your job.

Starting in 14 days, we'll be working 44 hours of OT per week until mid Jan.
Tell them I said to shut their whiny pie holes.

I'd be willing to bet this doesn't involve skilled labor

I bitch if I don't get 10 hours of overtime

Some people rather spend that time with family/ enjoying life than working.

Say what? You might want to check your math there, buddy.
I think the math depends on if your OT is straight time or time and a half. He did it at time in a half which comes out to $53k / yr base. At straight time, it's $80k a year.

Sure
I guess I just don't see a 50 hour work week as being very demanding
