I call older people "Mr." and "Ms." or "Mrs."

Why is everyone talking about sir and ma'am?
That has nothing to do with this

I still call my MIL and FIL "Mr" and "Mrs" follies by their first names.
I live in TX and have been told that is a very Louisiana thing to do

A person you don't know well, Mr. Last Name. An older person you know well, like a friend of your parents, Mr. First Name.

How do you like boardwalk vs Sopranos
Posted on 8/20/17 at 9:28 pm to GreatLakesTiger24
We didnt, my 4 year old calls people mister or ma'am if he doesn't know their name, says yes/no ma'am/sir like he doesn't know any other.

I prefer the sopranos, but I like BE a lot.
BE is superior in some ways, but Nucky is no Tony.

you call almost every adult you talk to mr or mrs last name?
Not always by last name. I call my 75 year old neighbor Mr Sean. My kids call all adults Mr or Mrs (excluding family)

So you don't do what I'm talking about (I'm not judging, it would be weird if you did), nor does anyone else ITT.

Not if the emphasis is on the last name part.

People prefer being called by their first name for some reason. If you went around trying to do this you would find many people saying "just call me ____" (first name).
