And i havent said differently since. why be a dickbag. Telling someone to pray is not practical advice. period. Especially if a) that person is not known to be someone who prays regularly or b) they have already thought their circumstances through to wits end . and yall being insulting doesnt change that

When my sister died unexpectedly, my parents were told they need to get over it a few months later.
I wasn't a parent back then so I couldn't empathize. But now that I am and I can feel the pain from my parents, I would have choked the SOB.
That's my answer to the OP.

I just have a hard time believing anyone ever resolved a complex life issue by "praying about it".
Prayer does the same thing as mediation, which does the same thing as "sleeping on it." Prayer helps you clear your mind, and that clarity can be revealing. I say this as a non-Christian, btw.
That said, I don't believe that somebody else praying will do anything at all for you, so you're right about that.

Thank you for being rational. Youre on my smart list

For me a lot of times the best thing someone can say is just to acknowledge that you're in a bad situation and not try to offer any advice. Like the other day I was venting to a friend about how I'm overwhelmed with school right now and he was just like "man that sucks. I'd hate to be going through that" and that actually helped. Obviously when something is troubling you, you've already spent hours thinking about so if there was a clear solution you probably would have already arrived at it.
