Govts did not like them (and may cell providers) but for emergencies with wide spread power outages and in dense enough populations to form a network I am surprised more apps like the discontinued Firechat haven’t become widespread even just to be turned on only as a backup in situations like this. Briar & Bridgefy i guess are still around, but most talk is to avoid govt or about security issues with communications along with man in middle issues. With an emergency It’s to get information or message family not to plot revolution or access my bank or investment account.

Requires wifi and cell phone. If you have both it works well.

It's good to have and it needs minimal data to use. But it still needs internet to work. Even though people are saying otherwise on Facebook.

I see. I remember when Nextel, Southern LINC, etc. were trying to do this. They probably still sell that stuff.
