So are you saying Obama dropped life expectancy? Nice spin and quite the reach. I am sure I can find whatever data I want as well.

Life expectancy dropped for the first time in over 20 years. The last dip came about due to deaths from AIDS, which has since been just about eradicated. The major blip on the radar, since that time, was the passage of Obamacare. I'm not implying causation directly, although you might be able to make a case it played a role. It would be a weak one.

The point though, is that we really have a shitty health care system when compared to the resources and talent present here. Dollars spent compared to qualty of life, longevity, metrics of value, quality of care received...we lag behind many other nations. We have repeatedly gotten it wrong on health care since 1965 with the passase of the Medicare Act. We need to re-frame, re-evaluate, and re-tool.

Real news. They just quoted numbers from a published study. They couldn't really fake it this time

How convenient...

Seriously though, I have no expertise in this at all, but it seems to me that if you take out the catastrophic causes of death that we seem to be getting better at preventing then a person has always lived to about 80 plus or minus 10 years. It seems, intuitively to me, that's just just about when our bodies decide to give out.

This is likely because of DNA telomeres.

“At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide.” Telomeres

Each time cells divide, telomeres get shorter. In short, shorter telomeres cause disease and decay.

I can buy a peptide right now that will lengthen my telomeres. It’s called Epitalon. I’m not going to do it because I don’t want to mess with my DNA, bit peptides like this are likely the predecessors of what will be used by everyone in the future to alter DNA, the endocrine system, etc to achieve life spans we think are impossible now.

Oh come on. If discussing nucleotide sequences on the OT is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

My thinking is that the average life expectancy may plummet by 2070. Super bacteria created by the use/misuse of antibiotics, for example, could become a very serious issue.

I believe someone already alive today will live to 200.

It won't be me or you, and it certainly won't be the norm, but it will become more frequent at a pretty quick pace. We are on the cusp of some pretty amazing advancements.

Take C60, live to a healthy 180 or so.

I think I know who it will be. He’s 70 and can do rope climbs without using his legs. Same person you’re thinking of?

Access to primary care statistically correlates with increased life expectancy. Obamacare required health insurance policies to cover primary care. It also was aimed at increasing the number of insured people, increasing access to primary care. I don’t understand your point.

For starters, if life expectancy decreases or increases, that's an objective statistical fact, so your argument is irrelevant. The results are what they are.

Second, Obamacare policies have stratospheric deductibles so you might as well be uninsured.

Obamacare was nothing but a tax increase. And it's killing the middle class. I have first hand experience. And that's the truth

People stop seeking care when they can’t afford that shite. And Obamacare made healthcare unaffordable for many.

Hell, I’m pushing year 2 uninsured. frick Obamacare. I’m not spending more on heath insurance than all my other bills combined when I’m a single young healthy male who hasn’t been sick in years.

I don't think so. Maybe into the 90's/early hundreds mark.. But I don't think humans will hit the 170 mark in the next 200+ years

Jesus, how can so many people not see the obvious. The major blip on the radar is obesity. Most Americans are overweight and nearly 40% are morbidly obese. The rates of diabetes and obesity-related cancers are skyrocketing.

The current generation will be the first not to live longer than their parents. But let's blame Obamacare.
