I don't see teleportation for human travel (or anything of any significant mass) within the next 50 years, but theyve been able to do so with an atom. LINK
I do see the suborbital flights happening, being able to go from NYC to Sydney in a relatively short amount of time.

Have your son (op) read George Friedmans The Next 100 Years.
Solar panel farms on the moon. Most of the Southwestern states will be basically Mexico Annex with possibly politicians holding office in both countries. Poland a superpower.
It's a great read.

I've read that, and it seems impossible to me. There's no way in hell the US will ever willingly hand over Texas and California. The Americans that live there would flip their shite, as well as the country at large. Would we really hand over Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and most of our oil to the fricking Mexicans? There's no way in hell this would ever happen.

Not giving it to Mexico just by virtue of the population of Mexicans growing and gradually moving north of the borderlands. Just sheer population.
Read his book. It's interesting. He's a strategic forecaster so it is his job to look far ahead. He says at the beginning of the book he is taking some liberties but that is just the nature of the forecasting occupation. He makes very well stated arguments.

But still, that would require giving up every tech company in the nation, as well as movie studios and Exxon. I think that would be a declaration for war.

I know I could wade thru articles about what Singularity is... But can you briefly explain it for a TD audience?
My take on it is a machine builds a smart machine, then the smart machine builds a super machine, then the super machine builds the superduper smart machine, and so on and on and on. I may be wrong and if so someone correct me.
