I was told that Baton Rouge, errr i10 specifically, will be beach front property by 2030 due to Moon Wobble, so I plan to buy a beach house on Garfield Street.

Baton Rouge wishes it ever had a moment in time like Detroit.

It is amusing when Detroit is used as a poster city of a warning to the potential ill fate of cities like BR, Jackson, Montgomery, etc.

It has a metro population of 5.3 million. Roughly the same as DFW, Houston, and Atlanta.

Detroit is one of THE great sport cities in a America, and yes, I do put significant cultural value on that.

Though I have never personally verified, supposedly Detroit has some of the best suburbs in the country.

Incredible downtown architecture spearheaded by the revitalization efforts of the Ilitch family.

Thriving Windsor, Canada across the river.

It was never a as huge as Detroit, but it also never saw rapid decline like Detroit or St Louis.

Although Baton Rouge was growing like crazy until about 1990. Then it became somewhat stagnant while the rest of the metro area exploded from about 500,000 to 850,000.

I think all the growth will be in the suburbs for the next 20 years too. America really fricked up by letting the progressive marxists take over a major political party.

I agree. The metro will still be populated due to LSU, the river, state government etc but more people will leave the city and EBRP.

It'll be like Jackson or Montgomery if you dropped Miss State or Auburn's campus a few miles from downtown. It kind of already is like that I guess which is sad because this wasn't always the case.

It’s amazing to me how fast a city can deteriorate with the wrong, hard headed, out of touch leadership. Austin, TX used to be one of the greatest, safest places to live. In just 3 years it’s going to compete shite in and around the downtown area with homeless people and crime.

Once a Democratic Mayor is voted in, where BR has similar demographics as Orleans Parish the city will never revert back. Sadly, BR will never recuperate from what it was in the 80’s.

I think BR was still a pretty decent town until the late 90s/early 00s but it's been on a steady decline since then. But yeah it probably peaked in the 80s.

Yup. BR was great in the 80’s. Now I have no desire to even go there. Unless to my doctor who is in a relatively safe place… I mean come on they have young thugs carjackings at the two major hospitals in town… screw BR… I love my LSU football but you couldn’t pay me to go to a game there…..

That's those San Francisco style politics doing that

It will be like Jackson. Millsaps has a 8' metal fence around campus with security access gates. The city is basically lunatics running the asylum while the white taxpaying minority hold on in their little pockets watching their cars getting broke into. Infrastructure continues to crumble b/c there's so little tax base left. Everything around it incorporated land-locking any footprint growth. When the legis is in session, the three restaurants downtown make some money. There will be an "alternative" lifestyle component floating around going to Brickyard all the time...and thats about it.

The issue with BR is that the people who have been leaving since the 90s are the middle class and wealthy. It's been a continuous shift in demographics for 30+ years.

The population of BR proper is about the same today as it was in 1980. Tax payers move to the suburbs or out of state and they are replaced with people on government assistance having 6 kids. It's not quite to the level of Jackson yet but 20 yrs should do it.

It’ll be interesting to see what yearly homicide rate will look like. Will 200+ homicides be the norm in 20 years?
