Not sure how many of those responses were serious. This one is.

A mix of people of all types and socioeconomic status, although very light on the community youth crowd. Watching the rodeo itself will be very interesting for a first timer, the events are varied and quick and entertaining, and the calf scramble and mutton busting are cute crowd favorites.

The exhibition hall and livestock show/pens are fun to walk around and see, with lots of different types of animals and interesting exhibits, make some time (a couple hours) to do this before the rodeo starts.

The midway is typical midway-crappy rides, and WAY overpriced. I'd advise to avoid this at all costs.

The concert ends the "official" activities at the end of the rodeo, there will be some traffic delay getting out of the parking lot, but they manage it pretty well and it flows, get away from the stadium then consult your map for where to go. If you can exit heading north on Kirby that will put you into an area with lots of restaurants and the "center" of Houston activity.

Enjoy!

Used to go when we lived there for a few years. Pretty fun time, we would usually go two or three times a season, with one of them always on a weekend so we could be out there all day.

The "rodeo" is actually a small part of what goes on out there. There are some cool things to see at Reliant Center, and a lot of the more interesting competitions are at the livestock show at the old Astro Arena. Lots of educational stuff to... for a NOLA boy, learning about life on a farm was pretty neat.

One thing to know is they give away a shite ton of money for scholarships. So that's cool to know that your admission is supporting that.

We just always took a "when in Rome" view on it. Laid back, enjoyed the sights, ate some good BBQ, laughed at the teenages trying to rope the calves, etc. I would probably never make a special trip back just for Rodeo, but it was a cool thing to do while we lived there.
