People flocked after the civil war to the mythical coca cola plant and Magic City

Pretty sure Memphis was the first choice but the city said no

Houston I get; there had to be an O&G center on the Gulf. But Dallas' rise I dont get.

I prefer this story about Delta

What I'm talking about happened earlier
Why did Dallas happen at all? Why didn't the RRs just go to FW?

John Neely Bryan built a cabin and the rest is history.
ETA: I honestly can't answer that question with a great amount of certainty.

Also CNN, the 1996 Olympics, and Ted Turner marketing the Braves as America’s Team… it certainly wasn’t anything to do with the Falcons

In the 1970s Ted Turner put the Braves on his cable station. People all over the :country became fans because they could watch every game. It raised brand awareness for the whole city.

Trinity River. Dry most of the time but once in a while it floods. You needed a trading post on your side you could reliably get to.
I didn't read that anywhere its just my theory.

OK, I will admit my ignorance: I could have sworn I'd read that Dallas is not on a river.
That explains part of it, but certainly not all.

Its not much of a river, more like a creek, but every now and then it rains a lot and its like half a mile wide. Not a problem now with elevated roads. Back in the day you were stranded until the water went down..

Moreso it was the ONLY game we could watch everyday. Except the Cubs, but they were all day games so we all watched the Braves.
