I'm going to put my hands up and say "don't shoot". If that does not work I'm going to say "I can't breath". I'm sure this will work on all home invaders of minority.

Me either. If I didn't stay proficient with my guns I wouldn't have them accessible. Many times those encounters don't end well. I'm not that guy. I always go down swinging.

i could literally sleep with a gun in each hand, safety off, hair trigger, fully loaded and still not hear an intruder walk up to me and eat a bag of doritos over my head.

Glazers will probably do the trick just as well.

Actually pretty nasty channels at close range. If you recall, their intended use was for sky marshals where penetrating the skin of the aircraft was an extremely intolerable risk. Very similar in concept to to a shotshell or flechette warhead.

However, very expensive and it loses a lot of pop once the velocity drops off. This is compounded by the fact they're very often used in short-barreled pistols and revolvers. I have some of their Pow'R ball rounds for my Makarove - part of that is the issue with hollowpoints and that Walther design. The other part is that there just aren't very many defense loads in 9mm Mak, either.

For most folks, a pistol with JHP is the most convenient solution. The best combat power for an inside the house encounter is probably a 12-gauge shotgun. The question then becomes - how much tradeoff between stopping power and low pentration. I think #6 shot is fine out to 10 or 15 feet, perhaps further. Other people, whose opinions I greatly respect, differ.

I think #4 buck is about the heaviest you can go and not shred interior walls - and even then, you may have some guilt for killing the kids or neighbors.

But stopping the threat is the ultimate goal. If you're choosing to be armed and respond with lethal force, you have to accept the possibility of collateral damage. Otherwise, rely on non-lethal means and deterrants. Fences, dogs, alarms, lights, neighborhood watch, 9/11 etc.

Not me, I am a very light sleeper. I also live in a building with 2 security guards and key cards are needed to go anywhere. Oh....and the only way into my unit is thru a huge steel door or to repel down so I think I am good! If they get in somehow though I would grab my AR-15, if I lived with others it would be my 12 gauge.

As far as handguns, we have a couple of .38 specials. One stashed downstairs, the other within reach of my bed.

Surprisingly, my parents are currently better armed than I am. I might buy myself another gun for my birthday.
