So you randomly pick and choose who you believe? Or does e-reputation play into it?

People I know IRL have played with those guys. The average guy here claiming to be a 13 but consistently hitting a 5 iron 210 I will not believe.

I wouldn't play with somebody who would want to have a dick measuring contest on yardage. Golf is all about who you play with. No thanks.

And those guys report back on average distances?

If you only believe people who you 'know' IRL, then I'd suggest getting off the internet.

I need to play a round with you sometime.

I don't know if the course could handle the raw animal power of the duo at one time though

The odds are against most people here averaging what they claim. Do you really disagree with that?

When I was a sr in HS my I started playing golf again. Played when I was younger but started focusing only on other sports In jr high. I was 6'3 155lbs I use to hit my 56 135. 9 was 160. But I wasn't that good. Could just mash. Now I hit 9 from 140 range. Score a lot better but don't hit it far

Not like it's impossible that people hit the ball a mile. My college roommate could hit 200 8 iron. He could never keep it on the course but he could mash

Then why even bother? You can't confirm who is lying and who isn't, so what's the point?

What's the point of being on the internet at all?

It's more reflection on his cynicism, than a validation of his argument.

I don't understand the need to claim great distance with certain clubs, that's just macho banter that may look good on the range but doesn't mean crap if you can't convert it to good scores. Personally, I'd rather be known as the guy that can get up-and-down from the ball washer every time ... that really gets into an opponents head!

As to the original question, I would try to hit a knock-down 6 iron since I prefer to take a little extra club in pressure situations. To quote Jack Nicklaus: "If you have to swing hard ... you've got the wrong club in your hands."
