we did 3400 bales, made $16.50
Crazy how many people here hauled hay.
I did it for my grandpa for a handful of years along with cousins and guys from church. I don’t recall it being bad for some reason, but wasn’t a ton of work, just probably around 800 bales over 2-3 days. He later switched to round bales so that was much better.

Not me, but some guy from New York intentionally applied to the MBA program at LSU and is moving to Baton Rouge for it.

I had a crazy friend (he was mental, I hadn't realized it yet), that got me and him a job on a oil or gas rig south of Shreveport. I just walked up and he talked to this guy and guy waved me on in. Put some gloves on I found in this room. The guy showed me how to wrap a chain around a pipe, and to be sure to let go of pipe quickly. (That was my training). They were taking all the pipes out and putting them back in and were in a hurry. Spent 12 hours doing that, all night. The second pipe I held on about a tenth of a second too long and the chain took my glove with it. Got screamed at. Me and this other guy was putting this big clamp around the pipe. He was about 220 and I was 155 pounds. Anytime he felt I didn't do my 50% of the clamp he'd look at me like he was gonna knock my head off. I really didn't mind the work, the only thing that bothered me was the unknown. I didn;t know what to look out for. Took me a month to get paid because no one wrote down my name. I only worked one night.

I took a summer job in high school delivering phone books for some dude I didn't really know. $300 back in 1992.
We would park a van and load up these huge duffel bags and go door to door leaving the phone books.
The last day, the dude never showed up and stiffed me the $300.
