What is the point of parades where nothing is thrown?

Went to a Thanksgiving day parade and I got there and realized nothing was being thrown. Just floats and people waving. A buddy said that this is common practice for parades everywhere except for Mardi Gras? I was appalled. I just can’t understand why all those people brought chairs to watch floats drive by. Its basically just advertisement from local businesses.

OP is getting shite on, but I kinda agree with him. I thought this earlier when the fam was watching the parade on tv. Seemed kinda pointless.
Yes, most of the shite you catch at a parade is worthless, useless, or both. But if makes it way more fun than just waving at people as their float drives by.
