Sorry, but not eating McDonalds every other day or getting on a treadmill three times a week just isnt that hard.

You have no idea what you're talking about. If you think that addiction is imaginary than you're living in a dream world.

Do you think that they're eating badly because of positive re-enforcement from friends and society or because they have an eating disorder or because they've eaten so badly throughout their lives that change is the biggest challenge that they'll ever face? I can see parents being a bad or overprotective influence, but I really don't see people telling a fat woman that she's beautiful as a major reason for her maintaining a weight problem.
It is certainly not the only reason, but it's a big part. It makes it so that obesity is a social norm. The majority of diabetics I treat are surrounded by family members, spouses, etc that are just as overweight and unhealthy as they are. They have no will power (or choose not to exercise it) when it comes to food, and they are surrounded by people of a similar circumstance. Therefore, their lifestyle seems normal. Every little bit the rest of society does to make being obese okay or acceptable is so damaging to getting through to these people.

For some it's as hard or harder than giving up smoking or giving up alcohol or drugs.

Because they are lazy.
Maybe a very small percentage of fat people actually have a mental disorder assisting their fatness, but the majority of fat people simply are lazy.
Please do not try to compare one of the most addictive drugs on the planet to being too lazy to go to the gym a few times a week.

Obesity shouldn't be celebrated. All major preventable health problems are directly related to obesity. These people are basically celebrating being lazy and one day developing heart desease, diabetes, etc. They are the reason out healthcare system is going to shite and our insurance premiums are going up. It wasn't built to support a country with 2/3 of the population obese.

ETA: I'm not saying these people have to change or aren't "beautiful". I'm just saying their lifestyles are usually irresponsible. I'm not going to be proud of you because you eat mcdonalds for every meal and sit on your arse all day.

Those women are absolutely fit and trim compared to some of the great whites I used to see beached on the sandy shores of Lake Charles
