I kinda feel for the people in this thread that have never had a real donut and are saying Krispy Kreme.
Are people saying that? The question was best doughnut from your childhood. I had a shitty palate when I was a kid, and KK was really the only true doughnut shop in my hometown, so it was the best doughnut from my childhood.
But now that I think about it, there was a doughnut place near my grandparents' house in Akron, OH that kicked the shite out of KK. Forget the name of it. It wasn't Dunkin, it was a local place. I want to say Angel Joy. But I only went there once or twice a year, if that up until my grandparents moved down here when I was 11 or 12.

Can't believe it took until page 5 to pop up, but I'll go with Jays. I remember many a Sunday morning leaving SJV and picking up a dozen or two..
Not to mention the Happy Man donut as a kid haha

I grew up on Shipley's and had a buddy in high school whose dad managed the store in my hometown. We'd go in after they closed for the day and get free donuts.
But, man after eating the donuts my wife grew up on at Richy Kreme donuts in Maryville, TN, Shipley's really isn't all that great. Too dry for my taste.
