Most of the time we have a trash sack without the top tied yet in the Garage thats 5 feet away from this trash can sitting in the laundry room.

I would lose my shtt.
First off, those things never go in any inside garbage. You take them right away to the outside can.
Second, you dispose in a plastic grocery bag before putting in outside can to prevent possible leakage.
