I've been stung by a yellow jacket and the pain didn't last but maybe 10 minutes.

yellow jacket.

not a yellow wasp, yellow jackets look like a honey bee at first glance.

When you're stung by a wasp it hurts and it comes out of the blue. When hit by a hornet, it feels like you got shot with a pellet gun and then the real pain starts 'cause he ain't alone.

Yellow jackets and wasps are a push as far as I'm concerned. Just usually with yellow jackets, reinforcements are quick to arrive. I've fortunately never been stung by a hornet so can't offer an opinion there. But the absolute worst pain I've ever felt from a stinging insect is bumblebees. For those who aren't familiar with them, they look like carpenter bees but nest in the ground like yellow jackets. I was running a bulldozer, tearing down an old levee and disturbed a nest. I managed to get the tractor out of gear and hauled arse on foot. Still got hit a couple times and it felt like getting a penicillin shot. A swarm of those bastards chased me for a good 150-200 yards to the truck.

Those bastards hold a grudge. Don't they?
