I'm up on my life insurance and have had a will since I was 35 that is detailed to the point where I have listed exactly who gets what from my large sports memorabilia collection and what they are to do with my season ticket rights. I'm considering clarifying that my younger son runs the show. We have land going back to the settler claim days. My dad and I chose to setup the trust so it skips me and goes right to the boys. I've put some guiderails in my will about it too.
I spent a good 2-3 years in my 40s stressing about death. I finally have gotten to the point where I stopped worrying and an at peace with the "when he wants to take me, he'll take me" mindset. I had an aunt who died early, my wife's aunt died quickly 2 years ago, and my parents have entered the brittle part of their lives.

quote:One of the greatest posts written here that I've read.
I have lived an honest life, full of service to others during some of their most difficult times.
Although I live a financially modest life, it has been very rich in purpose.
No regrets.

I'll check into that, but I don't believe it is accurate.
Possibly if they were named on the account...
I know joint accounts are insured up to $500K.
ETA:
Retirement accounts
Each owner is insured up to $250,000, regardless of the number of beneficiaries.
Trust accounts
Each beneficiary is insured up to $250,000, with a maximum of $1,250,000 per owner for all trust accounts.
Self-directed retirement accounts
The balances of all self-directed retirement accounts for the same person at the same bank are added together and insured up to $250,000.
You can use the FDIC's Electronic Deposit Insurance Estimator (EDIE) to estimate your deposit insurance.

For eternity, I made my arrangements in 1990 when I repented of being a lying, thieving, drunken fornicator and put my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
In this present world, I am now approaching the time in life that I need to start to consider the preparation for my death.
Life is indeed incredibly short, and this is the only shot we get. Eternity is far more important than this present world. Where will you send eternity? The key to enter heaven and be with God for eternity is NOT works, but is repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Will you make the proper preparation for entering eternity?

At the end of Basic Training 1969 the Chaplin gave us simple instructions of things to take care of while at home on Christmas Leave..."Put your affairs in order and write your wills". I was in my 20's then and have revisited those instructions every 5 years or so since.
Life Insurance... built into retirement survivor benefits, no separate policy any longer.
Prepaid funeral... no.
Plot or crypt... Neptune Society member... ashes into ocean.
Manifesto ... my important people already know what they need to.
See to it that somebody knows the coronor's phone number.
