It's awful to wonder what might have been. Check it out, you'll regret if you don't.
This. Leave zero regrets.
That being said you need an open discussion with this person. It's very "beta" by this boards standards to have a discussion like this, but before you were to move to 15 hours by plane away from home, I'd make sure the person at least thought they were on the same page. Tough talk to have, but it has to happen.

I have a friend in Australia whose longtime bf is here is the US. They have been together for years and make many visits to each other every few months. Neither can move from their country yet due to having minor children.
They have been together for many years and are planning on marrying in just a few months. They been thru all of the issues that a long distance relationship has and they have decided to get married, live in their own countries until their children are drown (just a few more years) and then she will likely relocate here.
They have been thru all of the issues that a long distance relationship has and always get thru it stronger than ever.
They do lots of facetime and apparently are masters at the sexting, phone sex and all that stuff and bang like crazy when they are together.
Their wedding is coming up soon and will be in Australia.

... That might be the most unfortunate typo or failed autocorrect I've ever read on here in some time.
To the OP, whether it's love at first sight or a brief relationship that became unusually intense (whether based on passion or that I feel like I've known you my whole life/open/comfortable feeling), it's still a gamble as to the whether things will work out.
It's definitely possible, but the odds are always less than 50%...
1) The magic almost always fades because most people lose focus or become distracted over time. That might seem a funny way to say it, but it may be the best way to broadly state it. Perhaps it would be an issue of focusing on your job to the point you don't realize your career is the center of your life instead of your girl... It could be anything, though, including simple, time-consuming bad habits that might re-assert themselves after the initial rush of relationship settles and you can't ignore the world around you anymore.
2) People too often romanticize these moments-- which eventually leads to feeling disappointed. If you expect magic for the rest of your life in a way that isn't realistic, you're more likely to fail. The people who succeed seem to have better perspective and balance... In truth, this is a variation of point #1.
... Anyway, true love is great and if you think you've found it, why not try to make it work if at all possible-- even if it means one of you has to totally give up everything back home? Don't be under any illusions that the world isn't going to make it hard. But give it serious thought and if there's a realistic way to get together with the girl, then what's stopping you? That's the question you need to consider.

Killing kids isn't cool.
