i'd like to believe that theres more life after death and another journey will begin. Hopefully everything works out and people are at peace, many who suffered through this life will be free. Its good to be optimistic on the subject, good to give people hope. Although, its likely that nothing happens, and death is the end of the road, and our journey ends here.

I mean it makes sense, but the problem is if that's the case then basically only saints have achieved this since the beginning of time and that's even if they did.

Not at all, they are plenty of people who gained an enlightened sense of being even at the youngest of ages. I think people who have died really young are maybe at their last level of this realm and need to pass some of their knowledge to the next person and so on.

Possibly one of the best lines I've ever read on this forum.

I believe that we were created by a higher being, the chance of life forming on planet earth was impossible, yet here we are. Debating life and dead in our perfectly made world just for us. I believe we will all be judged for our actions in this life.

...I believe in God, yet I don't know if he's how all of the books describe him. He works in mysterious ways for sure, he had no reason to create humanity but he did.

I believe in God. I believe in the after life. What I haven't wrapped my head around yet is that the after life is better. I "know" it is, but it's kind of a situation of the devil you know (pun not intended). I'd prefer to fulfill this life before checking out the next.

Pretty much where I'm at, although sometimes I question my motives.

At this point in my life, if I'm being completely honest, I believe in an afterlife almost solely because the alternative seems downright abysmal. Also, I'd rather live a good life and be on the right side of an afterlife than believe in nothing, die, and find out i was wrong.

Didn't mean to sound like a dick, I just liked the phrasing.

The good die young, maybe there is some truth behind this saying after all.

Amen to that, I would rather be right than wrong. Then you run into the problem of if that's really how your mindset has been throughout your life have you ever really believed or is it a forced belief out of fear?

This should be every honest person's admission. Faith always has some basis in preference, in my opinion. If in some alternate universe, nothing was perceived as better than something, that's what a lot of us would believe (re: hope).

No doubt. Living a good life has more immediate benefits as well. This speaks to my belief in a greater power. I feel more at peace when serving than I do when acting selfishly. Biologically, that is incorrect.

The chances of life forming on this planet were not impossible. Improbable, certainly. The unlikelihood of our existence is not a solid premise on which to build a belief in a higher power, though.

Debating life and dead in our perfectly made world just for us.

Our world is far from perfectly made for us. It took our ancestors thousands upon thousands of years to create stable enough civilizations that allow us to live longer than a couple decades. Disease, famine, natural disasters... they still wipe out hordes of people every minute.

I believe we will all be judged for our actions in this life.

Our actions are a product of our particular neurophysiology of which we did not choose. This a particularly troublesome thought, given that.

But knowing that everything we do in our lives will be eventually washed away and forgotten is troubling to many folks. And how could it not be? We were 'blessed' with the debatable gift of being aware of our own mortality, which could be viewed as a positive or negative depending on how one views that knowledge.

I tell myself that it won't really matter why you did it as long as you're a good person. I hope that turns out to be accurate.

Indeed. There are many emotional reasons for believing that the real party starts when we die. Just not many logical reasons .

That's basically where I'm at, as long as I'm a good person and my intentions in life are truly good. Then what else could our maker ask of us?

If I can do that and raise a beautiful family, I can die a happy and peaceful man.

Ehhh, many of us still remember our grandparents, still carry forth their advice and beliefs in many cases. Most of us live our lives with the intention and hope that what we do and what we say will carry on beyond our lives. Hell, at the basics, that's the motivation that allowed life to persist.
