I'm in them everyday. Prices and/or availability were affected in every grocery chain around.
At no point did i not see beef on the shelves.

So why are you acting like your experiences in baton rouge are the end all be all in this discussion? That's retarded.
I understand my outlook is just on Baton Rouge. Why are you acting like your experience in wherever you are is the be all in this discussion? We live in a world full of fricking idiots that buy toilet paper b/c some idiots on facebook gave them a stupid arse story. Sorry i don't believe this stupid arse story of beef shortages when nothing i saw in the stores around me proved that.
quote:
Costco upped prices on every beef item significantly because their suppliers did the same to them.
This is common. It happens all the time. Also, anyone that pays a grocery store to shop there is a moron. downvote away as i know everyone loves Costco.
quote:
Brisket alone went from $2.99/lb to $5.99+.
Guess what, sometimes brisket is $5.99/lb. Sometimes it's $2.99/lb. Sometimes ground beef is $5.99/lb, sometimes it's $3.99, sometimes it's $2.99. Prices fluctuate with beef all the time.
quote:
They even limited customers to 3 meat items total per customer at times.
HEB limited to 2 meat items total per customer a couple different times
Yeah, that's what happens when dumbass facebook warriors go out and buy shite in bulk for stupid reasons.
And that's not something that's specific to Covid. Rouses will do that from time to time. They'll have pork butts for $.99/lb and limit them to two per customer. They'll have ground beef very rarely at $1.99/lb in 10lb bags and limit it to two per customer. It's like some of you have been to a grocery store a handful of times in your life.
quote:
Just because you caught something on sale at one point during this doesn't mean prices didn't go up. That's absurd logic.
Just b/c you saw beef expensive one time during this doesn't mean prices are never going to be cheaper and there's a beef shortage. That's absurd logic.

Because more places had experiences like mine than yours.

A shithole in Louisiana didn't run out of meat therefore no one did.

Uh yeah.. Fluctuations happen because supply goes up or down. Are you serious? Supply went down so prices went up.

Having a sale on certain products and limiting the amount one customer can buy is so incredibly different than a store limiting an item that went up in price. Limiting a sale item ensures that people who come into your store because of the sales circular you mailed out to them can buy the items contained within the circular. You will lose customers if they come in for a sale item and you regularly don't have it.

I was a manager of a grocery store for 3 years and now am a direct store supplier to a variety of grocery stores. I guarantee I know more than you even if you grocery shop 3x a week.

Which was the plan.......

A shithole in Texas ran out of meat b/c facebook karens ran out and bought it all, so everyone did?

No shite. How long did your beef shortage/higher prices last? It also happens when you think there might be a shortage, regardless if the shortage actually happens or not.

I agree. Maybe grocery store owners in your shithole area are as stupid as the people buying up toilet paper, so they prepared for a shortage that never really happened.

Good for you. you probably know my dad, or at least have met him before in passing. I don't doubt you know more than i do. I dont doubt some places saw a hike in prices for a short time. What i don't buy is that there was some shortage of beef in this country. WHat likely happened was an overreaction, just like with the toilet paper, and had smarter heads prevailed throughout it, we wouldn't be talkign about this b/c no one would have any reason to.

It's still expensive but not difficult to find.

I’m more than aware of how beef prices work,
You realize beef prices fluctuate daily? Where do you get your information because unless you buy meat from a large distributor like NATCO in bulk you have no idea how beef prices work.

Bought the metal grinder attachment on Amazon at about 70 bucks - the mixer, used, for about 100. No ground beef that I've found in years compares to the quality I get from this system. I buy the beef on sale at 2.99 to 4.99. Grind it within 24 hours. Absolutely excellent.
You're welcome.

You realize you don't have to buy beef everyday as a consumer? You can be patient and buy it when it's cheaper. No one is forcing you to buy it when it's $5.99+/lb in the grocery store. One of the reasons the prices can get that high, is b/c people are willing to pay that much for it. I am not.
