This appears to be a high compliment in most parts, especially at the Emmys tonight.

Should all women strive to be "fierce"?

I'd like to think that it simply means "confident", "assertive", and/or "un-timid". But, I think it's applied to women who are aggressive, self absorbed, combative, and demanding.

I think there are only certain times and places where it's okay for a man to be called "fierce", such as when they're warriors, or sports competitors.

Would it be acceptable for a white male actor be referred to as "fierce"? Name one.

Yep. It was not a show meant to be enjoyed by my demographic. Unfortunately, it was on at the restaurant we ate at tonight.

The only time I ever hear that word used is in chick's online dating profiles and instagram. The chicks are usually hot and look like they have several bottles of prescription drugs in their purse.

I think a comparable with how they use it might be "bold." You can roll that up some with your confident, but I think there is a provocativeness implied. Maybe a willingness to go against trends and traditions. That sort of thing.

Every Nike shirt my daughters have say fierce or strong in big bold letters. They're 4. My son's shirts seem to only come with the swoosh and no slogans

in context to what you're referring i.e., the emmy's: trail blazing, fearless, pushing boundaries, etc.
for example, some might say what the sex and the city actresses did on HBO was "fierce."

i have heard it reference to the show "America's next Top Model" where Tyra encourages the girls to be fierce. Tyra explains it like this

quote:

" a girl or picture is amazing, strong, confident. Feel the surge of the burning inside my body and coming out to you. Fierceness is an energy, an emotion, it is a way of life. I lead a fierce life and think I take fierce pictures, do you?"

So it just your basic BS that self-obsessed people use to describe themselves.

Here is a 1 minute video of Tyra Banks explaining it in her own fiercely dramatic dumbass way
