If I remember correctly, he failed English, but did well in an aeronautical science course.

The book was wayyy better, he worked at NASA, with an orangutan, was a chess champion, and also a wrestler going by the nickname The Dunce.

If I am correct, they never mention this in the movie. I think because he received a football scholarship and wasn't known to be the smartest person, it was left to be assumed he didn't earn a degree in anything significant.. It had no impact on his future, but I bet that frick never missed a class.

I wonder if Harvey Updyke was born and old enough to remember watching Forrest play?

Is this in the book? Seriously.. Because now that I think about it, it seems like him volunteering to take care of the field when he made it big was connected to that because he was offered the job, but he said he already had enough money so he just volunteered to do it.

No. He doesn't invest in Apple in the book, and no he doesn't mow the field.

Go read the book.

ETA: He swears like a sailor, has 'tard strength, fricks Jenny constantly and is racist as all get out in the book.

Basically an OT hero. I dunno why the movie made him all caring and sensitive.

Blaaahh! I watch the movies so I don't have to read the book.

Seriously, that's one of my favorite parts in the the movie.. When he said something about investing in some fruit company.. Which was Apple.

He ended up founding a multi-billion dollar corporation after all.

In the book he flunks out after a season, I believe.

My first year in graduate school at UA I worked in the graduate school office in Rose Admin Building. Don't know why they called there, but people used to call and ask what years he was there.

I have no idea, I never read the book I just know that UGA has a Turfgrass Management program and if I'd grown up with a trust fund that's exactly the kind of stuff I would've majored in. Most of their students just maintain the playing surfaces for the different sports teams on campus. In the Spring, I've seen them hang out midweek at Foley Field and watch Masters Wednesday and Thursday on the scoreboard inbetween mowing the grass.
