People that do this are in a dark place you can't comprehend, I would withhold judgment and be grateful you don't have to deal with those demons.
That is very easy to say until you are left cleaning up the broken pieces left behind. You are right, I can't comprehend feeling bad for both the deceased and the ones left behind when I know the exact cause of death was self inflicted.
When a murder or an accident happens there are usually outlets you can blame, reasonable outlets. But when a suicide happens, family members usually blame themselves, life, or aren't allowed to blame the deceased. It isn't fair.

"...seems to be an easy way out..."
An easy way out? How easy would it be to put a gun to your OWN head and pull the trigger? Do you really think it's that easy? Knowing what carnage you may leave behind? That should give you an idea of the conflict going on inside a suicidal person's head. Don't assume that you know what that person is fighting with.

I think many of them do think of families but feel their mental illness is a burden and everyone would be better off without them.
^^^ seems to be a common irrational thought process with suicides...yea, so very selfish to not want to be a burden on your loved ones; like ripping off a band-aid , judge away.

No internal demons/battle is worth leaving your children fatherless.

Agreed, but then again, that's a rational thought coming from someone not dealing with a mental illness, as opposed to someone struggling with it.

you have to understand the individual generally thinks their family is better off without them, even weighing the impact killing themselves would have on them.
depression is no joke.

True. Had an acquaintance who put a hollow point into a .357 magnum...pulled the trigger every 20-30 min for an hour..."do you hear me now , God"... Not really wanting to kill himself. But so desperate for an answer and clearly not thinking straight.
As I heard it, it took him almost an hour to pull the trigger 3x, and thank God the chamber never cycled to the bullet.
He said in that hour, he was trying not to shake, and make sure the gun wasn't pointed at the wall in the hotel room , as to not injure someone else. If I recall, he said it was one of the most stressful and uncertain feelings he ever had, like tipping over a roller coaster before you can see below you. After that 2nd *CLICK*, the odds go up tremendously.

Then let's not apply the same rationale and logic to this

It's a selfish act. BUT, the problems that drive some one to suicide, well I pray I never will go there.
Posted on 1/20/16 at 8:39 am to 13SaintTiger
I understand the 2 are not exactly the same. The point is, the decision to commit the act is far more complicated than some on this board would make it out to be. If you are of sound mind, there is no question that you would likely not attempt this. Logical, right?

a misuse of words on my part.... friends I have lost due to suicide would not accept help and most had no desire to live any longer. I have also had these feelings before but I was able to get help and turn things around

That's the problem. It is very hard to fix stupid. Especially when you combine it with crazy.

Hard to fix stupid? YeH ..I'm done with this thread. Turning into a flame. Thanks for all who (actually) contributed something meaningful.

Until you've literally hated yourself and life so much that you actually wanted to desperately end it, then don't judge. And pray you never feel that way.
Be happy that you don't/can't understand it.
I'm not saying that I do, I'm saying I'm not going to judge those in that position and I hope I'm never there.

Yeah I seriously doubt either are in consideration when one chooses to end their own life.

Suicide is a social phenomenon because it is the result of an individual's psychological pain derived from social causes. Durkheim said that back in the 1890s, and while his analysis was problematic, I think his premise was correct.

Didn't want to start a new thread but I'm hearing a Live Oak High Junior hung himself the other day. Heard he was being bullied.

That's fricking terrible. None should ever feel that way, but especially children that young. I mean their whole lives are ahead of them, and they get caught up in some meaningless shite that drags them down. That sucks.
