Women in bigger cities are more likely to be career oriented and don't get married until their late 20s or early 30s. These women keep their appearances up and attend spin classes, Pilates, etc daily. Most rural women marry young and don't give a shite about their appearance, outside of makeup, after they've settled down and had a kid or two.

Let's break this down:
50% are the wrong gender (I'm assuming you aren't bisexual here, but even if you are, you're probably narrowing down the dating pool even more by only dating someone who is okay with dating a bisexual person)
Your acceptable age range is probably only
30% of the population, so now you are down to 15%
Just assuming you're willing to only date 5's and up, you've eliminated half of the remaining population, so 7.5%
Without getting into anything major, you're already near Jerry's number.
Assuming you have a good job and are a fairly attractive person you are probably dating only 7.5's and above, so a normal guy/girl is probably dealing with 3.75% of the population before eliminating people for cultural or physical preferences, which probably cut it by more than 50%, so let's call it 1.5% of the population.
Assuming that half of those people are already taken, you're below 1%.

Well done. It's probably close to that number, which may help explain why people in their mid-30s and older complain that the dating scene sucks.
