I've actually been there. If you take the ferry across the Irish Sea to Holyhead it's right on the way to London.
The ferry in Dun Laoghaire. Cool fact: Stena Explorer and her two sister ships are/were the largest catamarans in the world (one's been scrapped) and could do the crossing at 40 knots while carrying 1500 passengers.
In Wales. It's a tourist trap but a decent rest stop.
