Check out the TORNADO SENSOR preliminary 1 Hz GPS data from rocket launch into EF4 tornado south of Lawrence, using @chasinspin live streaming sensors and ground receiver! Rocket deployed SW into "notch" just prior to vortex crossing Hwy 59, then passed within 200m of Dom3 while inside! Maximum 2D speed > 180 mph.
Apogee (2075 feet above seal level) was reached 6 seconds after launch with the parachute deploying 8 seconds after launch, with the rest of the sensor flight near Lagrangian motion inside this violent tornado. Maximum vertical speed of the sensor was measured at ~79 mph.
Please keep in mind this is all preliminary analysis! We have a long way to go with interpreting. Thank you FB supporters for making this research possible!
Video of rocket deployment
Duke & other weather threaders... I'll let y'all have fun with this 1

NORTHERN MISSOURI! Please be on the lookout for our parachute probe launched into the EF4 tornado a few days ago. It was lifted by the tornado/meso to 34,000 feet and was heading in the direction of MCI airport We collected 1 Hz live data but would love the 10 Hz data. Please let me know if you find it! The Sensor has a Team Dominator logo on the back and is inside the nose cone of the rocket, attached to the yellow parachute.
