I thought this too. It was so weird.
You could hear the roar of constant wind (30-40 mph) and then the occasional gust to upwards of 60 mph. It may have sprinkled, but when it did, the drops went sideways. Our power was out from 9:30 to about 11:30. My kids were pretty scared and I ain't gonna lie, I was too. I didn't know what was going on.

Witnessed the same thing last night in jackson. I was inside and could hear what sounded like a damn hurricane outside and I was like "huh, I didn't think it was supposed to rain tonight". Then we lost power and I went outside and saw that shite had been blown all over the place, but not a drop of rain. Still don't have power back. Weird.

I got caught out on Lake Conroe in that wind Sat night. 6ft rollers are pretty scary in the dark.
